Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro in hand profile

Update, August 5, 2020 (3:09AM ET): There’ll be a new flagship to look forward to at Xiaomi‘s 10th anniversary event.

Confirmed in a tweet by Xiaomi PR executive Agatha Tang, the company will lift the lid on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra on August 11.

The “Ultra” moniker is a rarity for Xiaomi which usually opts for the “T” and “Pro” suffixes on its devices. It’s not exactly clear what Ultra could mean in this case, but judging by how other brands use the nameplate, the device could eclipse the Mi 10 Pro on specs and possibly price too.

Original article, August 3, 2020 (3:22AM ET): Xiaomi was founded back in 2010 and has a special 10th anniversary event planned for next week. To celebrate its decade-long run, Xiaomi has announced that its CEO Lei Jun will be delivering a special virtual address on August 11 at 7:30AM ET.

As per Xiaomi’s teaser for the event, Jun will discuss the company’s past, present, and future in his keynote speech, but rumor has it that the company will also reveal some new devices on the same day.

According to popular leaker Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi will announce “several new phones” and other “new products” on August 11, including a new phone in the Mi 10 series.

What will Xiaomi launch?

We haven’t heard a lot about upcoming Xiaomi phones, but there are some rumored devices that have been doing the rounds online.

There’s the alleged Redmi K30 Ultra which is expected to carry the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip and a 144Hz display. We also heard about two phones code-named Gauguin and Gauguin Pro, said to offer 64MP and 108MP main cameras respectively.

Rumors of a Xiaomi phone with 120W fast charging, a Snapdragon 865 series chipset, and 5G connectivity have also been floating around since last month. Given that Oppo, Vivo, and Realme have already announced their respective 120W and above charging solutions, Xiaomi shouldn’t be trailing too far behind.

As for the new Mi 10 model, word has it that it’ll come to market as the Mi 10 Pro Plus but there’s no real evidence to back this up. We also don’t know much about the other new products that the company might launch next Monday, but there’s been talk of a Redmi smartwatch so we might get a glimpse of that at the event.
