UC Berkeley told Insider that it has no record of Nima Momeni attending or graduating from the university.
  • Nima Momeni's LinkedIn profile lists UC Berkeley under his education information.
  • But there's no record of him going there, a representative for the school told Insider.
  • Momeni was arrested on Thursday over the murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco.

Nima Momeni, the tech consultant arrested on Thursday and charged with the murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee, had named schools including the University of California, Berkeley in the "Education" field of his LinkedIn bio.

But a representative for UC Berkeley told Insider that they couldn't find records that a Nima Momeni went to the elite institution.

"We do not have a match for that name, meaning no record of graduation or attendance," the representative told Insider.

It's possible that Momeni could have attended the school under another legal name, but Insider could not identify any other aliases for Momeni.

Momeni is being represented by the attorney Paula Canny, though her brother Robert Canny, who is also a lawyer, took her place at a hearing on Friday in San Francisco state court. Robert Canny did not return Insider's request for comment.

Momeni is being held in custody while awaiting an arraignment scheduled for April 25, after it was delayed due to Paula Canny's absence while she is on vacation.

Momeni's LinkedIn bio also indicates that he attended Laney College, an institution in Oakland, California, and Texas-based Vista College, which appears to have closed down in 2021, according to a report at the time in the Killeen Daily Herald.

Representatives for Laney college did not respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Momeni also started the IT consulting company Expand IT, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Lee, the founder of Cash App and chief product officer of fintech company MobileCoin, was fatally stabbed earlier this month in a killing that drove an outrage-fueled narrative on social media about street crime in San Francisco.

The San Francisco District Attorney said there is basis to believe Momeni and Lee weren't strangers, and charges unveiled on Friday against Momeni allege that he confronted Lee about Momeni's sister before the assault took place.
