The New York Police Department is amping up security outside Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, an early sign that the city's prepping for protests if former President Donald Trump is indicted.
A video from the Associated Press showed steel barricades going up in front of the golden doors of Trump Tower on Tuesday. The video also showed NYPD officers stationed in front of the barricades.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to Insider's query on how many officers have been stationed outside the premises, or if the police department had received credible threats of violence.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is investigating if Trump paid off the adult film actress, Stormy Daniels and violate New York election and document laws.
On Monday, police put up similar steel barricades outside the Manhattan Criminal Court, where Trump could be indicted, per Politico.
On Saturday, Trump posted an unsubstantiated claim on his Truth Social account that he will be arrested on Tuesday and called on his supporters to protest on his behalf. Trump was not arrested on Tuesday.
"PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!" Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday, echoing his own rhetoric before the Capitol riot.
Bragg has told his employees that they will be protected from threats to the prosecutor's office.
"We will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine the justice process, nor will we let baseless accusations deter us from fairly applying the law," a spokesperson for Bragg told Insider on Monday.
If indicted, Trump could face up to four years in prison.
