China retaliates against US sanctions with its own, targeting 11 US citizens in ongoing political skirmish

• China will sanction 11 US citizens in retaliation for similar US sanctions placed on the country last week. 
• GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are among those sanctioned. 
• Last week the US sanctioned Hong Kong's Beijing-appointed chief executive Carrie Lam and several other current and former officials for their enforcement of greater control of the region. 
• Rubio and Cruz faced previous sanctions for being outspoken about China's treatment of the Uighurs, a minority Muslim group in Xinjiang.

China plans to sanction 11 US citizens including GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio after the US imposed similar measures on the country last week. 

The announcement comes after the US sanctioned Hong Kong's Beijing-appointed chief executive Carrie Lam and several other current and former officials for their enforcement of greater control of the region.
