Ready.Set.Van has turned Ram ProMasters into camper vans that use Tesla batteries to extend off-grid capabilities.
The company, which specializes in ProMaster conversions, is based in Lambertville, New Jersey. The spark for the business came when founder Benjamin Fraser discovered his tiny home conversion passion after his family and friends decided to convert a school bus to go to Burning Man three years ago, he told Business Insider.
After the trip, he continued to drive the converted bus drive cross-country several more times and furthered his conversion hobby by helping his friends with their own home conversion builds.
"The process of designing and building [camper vans] and solving various engineering challenges was very rewarding," Fraser said.
In the fall of 2019, Fraser finally decided to take his own leap into the van conversion market.
"After spending a lot of time watching the van market, my feeling was that there was a real unmet need of the bottom end of the market in the $60,000 to $75,000 range," Fraser said. "There wasn't a lot of really professionally built vans in that price range [besides] a guy in his garage making a van every now and then and selling it online."
Fraser decided to focus the company on three "well-defined" Ram ProMaster conversion builds: the BaseCamper, the BaseCamper Pro, and The Wanderer. These three options all cost between $33,750 to $42,750, not including the van.
Ready.Set.Van.The set layouts allow Ready.Set.Van to keep the cost of its conversions low, although interior accents can be customized and optimized.
Ready.Set.Van.The Basecamper build is the most popular and least expensive at $33,750. The two- to four-person space includes a large rear garage that can fit two bikes, a raised bed that sits over the garage, and a lounge and dining area that can seat two to three people. The garage also has AC outlets and 12-volt and USB charging.
