Lenovo is best known for its laptops, but it has a number of great smartphones in its lineup too. In the western world, Lenovo phones certainly aren’t as popular and in markets like the US, largely unavailable. Don’t let this fool you, Lenovo has excellent phones and quite a following in Asia particularly. One of Lenovo’s key advantages is that the best Lenovo phones are generally cheaper than those with similar specs from companies like Samsung, Sony, and HTC. The newer models also ship with a stock version of Android, which is a popular choice.

Lenovo A5
The Lenovo A5 was recently released in parts of Asia and is definitely on the budget side of smartphones. It has a 5.45-inch 18:9 Full HD+ display, and inside, there’s a MediaTek MT6739 processor, 3GB of RAM, and either 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage
The A5 also has a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing selfie camera, both of which have an f/2.2 aperture. It has a large 4,000mAh battery and uses Lenovo’s ZUI 3.9 skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The A5 is priced at 599 yuan (~$94) in China and comes in Black, Gold, and Rose Gold colors. There are no plans to bring the phone to the US.

Lenovo K5, K5 Play and K5 Note
Lenovo recently released three new phones in the K5 family. The standard K5 and the K5 Play both have 5.7-inch displays with 1440 x 720 resolutions. The regular K5 has a MediaTek MT6750 chip and runs Android 8.1 Oreo, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the K5 Play uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chip, either 2GB or 3G of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of storage. It also runs the nearly two-year-old Android 7.1 Nougat. The K5 has rear 13MP and 5MP cameras, an 8MP front-facing camera, and a 3000mAh battery. The K5 Play has 13MP and 2MP dual cameras and also has an 8MP front-facing camera and a 3000mAh battery. The K5 costs 899 CNY ($142) while the K5 Play costs 699 CNY ($110).
The larger Lenovo K5 Note for 2018 has a 6-inch display, the Snapdragon 450 chip, either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. It has 16MP and 2MP rear cameras, an 8MP front-facing camera and a 3760mAh battery. It’s priced at 799 yuan ($125) . Once again, none of these phones are expected to be sold in the US.

Lenovo Z5
While earlier leaks for the Lenovo Z5 claimed it would be a truly bezel-free smartphone, that was later proven to be incorrect, as the phone does include a “notch” on the top of its 6.2-inch display, along with a small amount of bezel space on the bottom. It includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of storage. It also has dual 16MP and 8MP rear cameras, an 8MP front-facing camera, and a 3,300mAh battery. It’s available in China for 1,299 yuan (~$200).

Lenovo Z5 Pro
Unlike the standard Z5, the Lenovo Z5 Pro is indeed a nearly bezel-free smartphone, with very little showing on the top and sides of the big 6.39-inch 2,340 x 1,080 display. There is a slightly larger bezel on the bottom of the phone screen, but even with that, the Lenovo Z5 Pro has an extremely impressive 95.06 percent screen-to-body ratio. The screen also houses an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The reason the phone has such a bezel-free display is that it uses a slider design for its front cameras. When the slider is raised up, you can use its front 16MP and 8MP infrared camera setup, with the 8MP camera supporting IR face recognition. There are also 16MP and 24MP rear cameras on the back of the phone, and they support the company’s version of night photography tech, called AI Super Night Scene.
Inside the phone, you will find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, along with 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. There’s also a 3,350mAh battery, Android 8.1 Oreo installed with the ZUI 10.0 skin out of the box and features such as a “game mode” that can be turned on for faster performance and better network latency. Unfortunately, there’s not a headphone jack nor a microSD card slot for adding more storage. The phone is available in China for 1,998 yuan (~$288) for the 6GB/64GB version, while the 6GB/128GB variant costs 2,298 yuan (~$331). It is not available, nor is it likely to be available, for sale in the U.S. However, it’s still one of the best Lenovo phones you can get, if you can get it.

Lenovo Z5 Pro GT
If you thought the Z5 Pro was cool, consider the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. It has the same display, the same sliding front cameras, the same rear cameras, and the same battery as the regular Z5 Pro. It even comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, even though the phone actually launched in January 2019, well after the release of Android 9 Pie. However, inside the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, you will find it has the fastest mobile processor inside, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. There are also more RAM options (6GB, 8GB and even 12GB) and more onboard storage choices (128GB, 256GB and 512GB).
As with the Z5 Pro, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is only sold in China, with prices ranging from 2,698 Chinese yuan (~$391) for the 6GB/128GB version, to 4,398 Chinese yuan (~$635) for the 12GB/512GB model. That’s very cheap for a phone with such high-end hardware. It’s clearly the best Lenovo phone ever made, but again, good luck trying to purchase it outside of China.

Lenovo Z5s
The Lenovo Z5s is the budget edition of the Z5 phone lineup. It has a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with a dewdrop notch on top for its single 16MP front camera. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, along with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage, with a microSD card slot for adding more storage. It also has three rear cameras; a main 16MP sensor, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor. It also has a 3,300 battery, Android 8.1 Oreo and, yes, a headphone jack. It’s on sale in China with a starting price of 1,398 Chinese yuan (~$208).

The Lenovo S5 is yet another budget-themed phone for the Asian markets. It has a 5.7-inch display and a 2,160 x 1,080 resolution. Inside, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, and the phone is available with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and with either 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of onboard storage. It has dual 13MP rear cameras, a 16MP front-facing camera and a 3,000mAh battery. Pricing begins at 999 CNY ($158).

Upcoming – Lenovo Tab V7
This upcoming device from Lenovo is technically a tablet, but the company says it can also be used as a phone, so we are putting the Tab V7 on this best Lenovo phones list to be complete. Even though it will have a huge 6.95-inch full HD display, our experience with an early version at MWC 2019 showed that it was light enough and thin enough so you could possibly hold it in one hand. The hardware won’t be the fastest; you will be getting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, or 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. You also get a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.
However, the Lenovo Tab V7 will have Android 9 Pie installed and it will also have a huge 5,180mAh battery, so its overall battery life could be pretty good, even with such a huge display. It will go on sale later this year in parts of Asia, Europe, and Latin America for the starting price of €249 (~$283).
