- According to IndieWire, filmmaker Steven Spielberg is against Netflix films competing for awards at the Oscars and plans to bring up his concerns at an upcoming Academy Board of Governors meeting in April.
- Spielberg will reportedly rally for changes that would exclude Netflix from Academy consideration.
- Most recently, Alfonso Cuarón's Netflix movie "Roma" won Oscars for best foreign-language film, best directing, and best cinematography. The movie was also nominated for best picture.
Steven Spielberg isn't basking in the glow of best picture Oscar-winner "Green Book," which he supported in this year's contentious Oscar race. His Academy Award attention is now devoted to ensuring that the race never sees another "Roma" — a Netflix film backed by massive sums, that didn't play by the same rules as its analog-studio competitors.
