Those self-lacing Nike sneakers? Yeah, not working on Android

Nike released its new self-lacing sneakers, the Adapt BB, on Sunday, complete with Android and iOS connectivity. However, reports from Google Play and CNET here (via Engadget) suggest it’s having issues with Google’s platform.

The Nike Adapt app, which pairs with the sneakers to allow you to customize the colors and fit, has numerous one-star reviews discussing connectivity issues. Some say the app only connects to one shoe, one person said it “bricked” one of the $350 sneakers.

The iOS app so far hasn’t displayed the same issues.

It’s another blow to Android in the U.S. which has for years faced the stigma of being less secure and stable than its major rival iOS. That’s not to mention mountains of complaints from its own community regarding updates (specifically, that they’re slow as a bicycle without wheels. Weighed down by rocks. In the mud.).

Nike hasn’t responded to the issue yet, but it might be because it’s dealing with another PR nightmare. College basketball player Zion Williamson’s Nike shoe burst open 33 seconds into a game yesterday, injuring him.

Looks like Nike really needs to step up its game, here.
