Bixby is still front and center on the new Samsung Galaxy S10 line. Not only is the Bixby Home page a swipe away from your home screen, there’s also a dedicated Bixby button on the side of the device like we’ve seen on the past few Galaxy phones. This time around though, Samsung is letting users remap the Bixby button to whatever app they so choose.
The Verge has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S10’s Bixby button can be remapped to open a third-party app with either a single or double-tap of the button. Reportedly, whichever shortcut you don’t assign will still open the Bixby Home feed. That means if you assign a single-tap of the button to open the Google app, a double-tap will still bring you to Bixby.
A long-press of the physical button will still activate Bixby Voice, too.
This change addresses one of the main pain points behind the physical Bixby button. For years, users have complained about the Bixby button’s mere existence — it’s very easy to press on accident, causing the digital assistant to activate when users don’t want to use it. This caused many users to disable the Bixby button entirely.
We already know many of our readers love remappable buttons on their smartphones. Thankfully, it looks like Samsung paid attention to its users this time around.
