Update, February 1, 2019 (9:30AM ET): It’s taken almost two months for Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam to launch following its reveal last year. But the game is finally available to play on Android, so what should you expect?
Well, the game seems to have the same fundamental controls as the original titles, delivering a virtual joystick and separate buttons for ollies, grinds, grabs, and flip tricks. We’ve also got the staple career mode on offer (spanning five regions), that tasks you with collecting letters and getting high scores. Other modes include tournaments against real-world players, and a daily quest system.
Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam is free to play, but the game is definitely geared towards monetization. We’ve got video ads after each skate session (even if you immediately quit without playing), optional video ads to multiply your virtual rewards, the ability to upgrade your character’s attributes with real cash, and in-app purchases to the value of $100 per item.
Want to make up your own mind? Well, you can hit the button below to download the game from the Play Store.
Original article, December 3, 2018: If you’re a gamer who fondly remembers the heydays of the original PlayStation and Xbox, you probably have memories of playing one of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. The skateboard-centric video games were some of the most popular titles at the time, and cemented Tony Hawk as the world’s most popular skater.
Now, it looks like there’s an official Tony Hawk game coming to Android called Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam. The game just popped up on the Google Play Store in pre-registration.
The description of the game on the Play Store listing is pretty slim, but it does make it clear that there will be a career mode and a tournament mode for you to play through. There will also be street, vert, and park disciplines for you to learn.
Oh yeah: and you can play as Tony Hawk.
Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse skateboard company is featured heavily in the game, with players being able to upgrade and collect various Birdhouse boards. With the emphasis on board collecting — and the currency symbols featured in the in-game screenshots — it’s safe to assume that Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam will be a free-to-play game with heavy emphasis on in-app purchases.
For now, you can pre-register for Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam at the Google Play Store. Doing so will send you a notification when the game goes live so you can easily download it.
