Earlier this week, senior Mac OS engineer Bill Stevenson posted a status update on his LinkedIn profile (uncovered by 9to5Google) describing how he has left his 14-year stint at Apple to move to Google to work on the upcoming Fuchsia OS.

While many Android engineers have been moved to the Fuchsia project, this is the first person we know about who has moved to the project from Apple.

Stevenson doesn’t leave much to the imagination with his LinkedIn post, although he doesn’t mention what his specific role will be at Google:

According to Stevenson’s LinkedIn profile, he began working with Apple in 2004 as a Product Release Engineer for Mac OS X. Four years later, he was promoted to Senior Engineering Program Manager within the same department. In 2012, he was promoted again to Senior Manager for Mac/Windows Program Management. Within all of his roles at Apple, Stevenson focused a lot on cloud integrations within Mac OS.

It’s possible that Stevenson is moving to Fuchsia to help lead the development when it comes to cloud services, as that will likely be a huge part of how Fuchsia works.

Fuchsia OS is an upcoming operating system designed to be all-encompassing, covering mobile devices, desktops, laptops, wearables, etc. Rather than have Android for smartphones, Chrome OS for laptops, Wear OS for wearables, etc., one would run Fuchsia on everything. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Fuchsia will also run Android apps.

The ambitious project has been in development for years and is still likely years away from a public release. Eventually, Google plans to use Fuchsia in place of Android for most — if not all — of its products.
