- The president of Xiaomi posted an image of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 on Chinese social site Weibo.
- Like the Vivo Nex, Oppo Find X, and recently-teased Huawei Honor Magic 2, the Mi Mix 3 might have a slide-up camera.
- This design would enable the Mi Mix 3 to have a full, notch-less display.
Update, September 3, 2018 (01:12PM): Thanks to a user on Weibo (and Ben Geskin for sharing it on Twitter), we now have a hands-on video showing the Mi Mix 3’s sliding camera in action. As you can see from the video below, unlike the Vivo Nex and Oppo Find X, it appears that the sliding mechanism is spring loaded and not powered by a motor.
While this might not seem as cool, at least users won’t have to worry about the motor breaking and losing access to the camera and earpiece.

Original article, August 30, 2018 (01:22PM): Today on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, the president of Xiaomi posted an image of the still-unannounced Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.
From the picture, it appears that the Mi Mix 3 will be Xiaomi’s first foray into a significant display trend in 2018. No, not the notch — the pop-up camera and sensor trend.
Like the Vivo Nex, the Oppo Find X, and the recently-teased Huawei Honor Magic 2, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will likely feature an all-screen, notch-less display with a slide-up camera and sensor package. Check out the image below:
Unlike the Vivo Nex, the camera doesn’t appear to pop out of the body using electronic mechanics. Rather, from examining the photograph above, it appears that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is essentially two pieces: the screen piece and the back piece. Somehow a user can “split” the two pieces in such a way that the front-facing camera and related sensors are at the top of the device when they want them to be. Then, when they are done, they snap the two halves back into place.
This is all speculation at this point based on one image, but since the president of Xiaomi posted it, chances are high that this is what the device will look like and how it will function.
The Weibo post also mentions that Xiaomi is hoping to launch the Mi Mix 3 in October for an on-sale date shortly after.
Since the original Xiaomi Mi Mix and the Mi Mix 2 didn’t see global releases, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see the Mi Mix 3 launch outside of China. However, anything is possible!
