Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro

  • Xiaomi has launched three Redmi 6 phones in India, ranging from the Redmi 6A to the Pro model.
  • The series starts at well under $100 for the Redmi 6A, all the way to ~$181 for the top-end Pro variant.
  • The phones will be available in India from next week.

Xiaomi‘s Redmi family usually offers great value for money, so we’re glad to see three Redmi 6 variants launch in India. But what are you actually getting when you buy one of these devices?

Starting with the most expensive model — the Redmi 6 Pro — you’re literally getting the Mi A2 Lite with MIUI instead of Android One. So that means a Snapdragon 625 chipset, 3GB RAM/32GB of expandable storage or 4GB RAM/64GB of expandable storage, a 5.84-inch notched full HD+ LCD screen, and a 4,000mAh battery.

The Pro model also delivers a 12MP+5MP rear camera pairing, a 5MP selfie camera, and a rear fingerprint scanner.

What else did Xiaomi bring to India?

The next phone on the list is the Redmi 6, which has a lot in common with the Pro model. So that means a similar 12MP/5MP rear camera pairing, a 5MP selfie shooter, 32GB or 64GB of expandable storage, and a rear fingerprint scanner.

However, the vanilla Redmi 6 differs from the more expensive model by using a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset (octa-core Cortex-A53, 12nm), offering 3GB of RAM only, a 3,000mAh battery, and a 5.45-inch notchless HD+ LCD display.

Finally, the cheapest model on the list is the Redmi 6A, which offers a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC (quad-core Cortex-A53, 12nm), 2GB of RAM, and 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage. As for other details, you can expect a 5.45-inch HD+ display, a 3,000mAh battery, 13MP rear camera, and 5MP selfie shooter. Unfortunately, the phone lacks a fingerprint scanner, but it’s to be expected for low-end phones.

The Redmi 6 Pro starts at 10,999 rupees (~$153) for the 3GB/32GB model, while the 4GB/64GB variant will set you back 12,999 rupees (~$181). Meanwhile, the standard Redmi 6 has a starting price of 7,999 rupees (~$111) for the 3GB/32GB variant, while the 3GB/64GB model costs 9,499 rupees (~$132). The Redmi 6A is the cheapest phone of the lot though, starting at 5,999 rupees (~$83) for the 2GB/16GB variant, and 6,999 rupees (~$97) for the 2GB/32GB option.

The Redmi 6 Pro goes on sale on September 11, the vanilla Redmi 6 hits stores on September 10, and the Redmi 6A launches on September 19. All three phones will be available from Xiaomi’s website and offline stores, while the Pro and 6A will also be available via Amazon India. The standard Redmi 6 will also be sold via Flipkart.
