- The NFL says it believes in “dialogue, understanding and unity” in response to Colin Kaepernick’s appearance on Nike’s newest marketing campaign.
- A picture of Kaepernick appeared alongside Nike’s iconic “Just Do It” slogan earlier this week, highlighting the its support for the embattled ex-NFL star as he looks to get back in the league.
- Kaepernick has accused the NFL's 32 teams of colluding to not give him a contract because of his decision to kneel during the national anthem to protest racial injustice. A trial hearing that would include testimony from NFL owners is likely to happen in the future.
- Nike kept paying Kaepernick, who has been with the brand since 2001, for the two years that he's been out of the league with the hopes of bringing him back at the right time.
The NFL released a statement on Colin Kaepernick on Tuesday, a day after corporate partner Nike unveiled an ad featuring the quarterback as part of a major ad campaign.
“The National Football League believes in dialogue, understanding and unity,” president of communications and public affairs Jocelyn Moore said in the statement. “We embrace the role and responsibility of everyone involved with this game to promote meaningful, positive change in our communities. The social justice issues that Colin and other professional athletes have raised deserve our attention and action.”
