• Williams was given three code violations, the first for coaching, which Williams vehemently denied, arguing, "I don't cheat to win. I'd rather lose."
• She later demanded an apology, calling the umpire a "thief" and saying, "I have never cheated in my life. I have a daughter and I stand for what's right for her."

Williams was given three code violations by chair umpire Carlos Ramos, the third leading to an automatic loss of a game in the second set.
