- LG has announced the mid-range, stylus-toting LG Q Stylus.
- The phone borrows the stylus functionality of Samsung’s Note series but puts it in a more affordable device.
- LG will release the device in North America and Asia this month, before a wider rollout in the third quarter.
LG has just announced the LG Q Stylus, a mid-range device that comes with a Samsung Galaxy Note series-style stylus. According to LG, it will release the device on a limited basis this month in North America and Asia, before a wider rollout in the third quarter. The device is the latest phone from LG to feature a stylus, the last being the LG Stylo 3 from 2017.
The stylus has many similar features to those of the Galaxy Note 8. LG says it can be used to take notes with the display off, to edit captured images and videos, and to create GIFs. The latest device once again features LG’s “palm rejection” system that can tell the difference between an intentional touch with a stylus and an accidental touch with your palm.
The handset features 6.2-inch 18:9 FHD Plus display, meaning there is plenty of space to take notes. Despite the stylus and the large screen, however, this device isn’t here to directly compete with Samsung’s Note series. Instead, it’s expected offer stylus functionality for users on a tighter budget (LG hasn’t discussed how much the device will cost, yet, but given the specs and series history, it’s likely to be less than the $750 the Note 8 is currently going for).
The device is very similar to the recently unveiled LG Q7
In fact, the device is very similar to the mid-range LG Q7 that LG unveiled recently. It has the same design with small top and bottom bezels and very similar specs.
Also like the LG Q7, the Q Stylus will come in three slightly different models: the higher-end LG Q Stylus Plus, the middle of the road LG Q Stylus, and the lower-end LG Q Stylus Alpha.
The main difference between the devices is that the Q Stylus Plus comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage instead of the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage found on the other two devices. The other difference is that the LG Q Stylus Alpha has a 13MP rear camera instead of the 16MP one found on the other two.
The LG Q Stylus will have either a 1.5GHz or 1.8GHz Octa-Core processor, an IP68 for dust and water resistance, USB Type-C connectivity, a rear fingerprint sensor, 3,300mAh battery, and a portrait mode for selfies with a bokeh effect.
The device should also sound, featuring the same advanced DTS:X as LG’s flagship devices and support for 7.1 channel 3D surround sound through earphones.
Essentially, if you want a device with a stylus, but don’t want an expensive Galaxy Note 8 or one of its predecessors, the LG Q Stylus could be a good option when it’s released later this month.
