The part-owner of a Chinese nuclear power plant said it is experiencing a "performance issue" after a report it warned of a leak.

Framatome, a French company that part-owns and helps operate the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, told Agence France-Presse that it was "supporting resolution of a performance issue" at the plant.

It did not elaborate on what kind of issue the plant was experiencing.

It said the plant was still operating safely, but was being investigated: "According to the data available, the plant is operating within the safety parameters," it said.

"Our team is working with relevant experts to assess the situation and propose solutions to address any potential issue."

CNN reported on Monday that Framatome had warned US officials of an "imminent radiological threat" due to a leak, and said China was increasing radiation limits near the plant so the plant wouldn't have to shut down.

CNN also reported that President Joe Biden's administration believes the plant is not yet at "crisis level."

The plant said on Sunday, before the CNN report was published, that suggestions of radiation leakage were untrue, The Washington Post reported.
